Do you ever have trouble coming up with passwords that fit MFA Oil’s password policy or remembering passwords for various websites? You’re not alone, but the good news is there are tools available to help.

The MFA Oil password policy requires employees to change passwords every three months and you won’t be able to use the same one again for 18 months, so you’ll need at least six unique windows passwords before you can start rotating through them again. The best way to create strong passwords is to use a phrase that is meaningful to you and make slight changes to it for security purposes. For instance, changing an “e” to a “3”, an “S” to a “$”, or an “I” to either a “1”, or capitalizing a letter or two will greatly improve the strength of your password as well.

If you have difficulty remembering all of your passwords for both work and/or personal sites, consider using the Okta app available through the company. Okta uses your MFA Oil windows/domain login and password and remembers your passwords for other sites once you’ve saved them while logged into Okta.

Another great feature Okta offers is the ability to reset your Windows Password in case you forget it, or accidentally lock yourself out. When you first visit the Okta site, you will need to complete the registration process, which includes adding your cell phone number. Using this secondary contact method, along with a personal security question, Okta can validate your identity and allow you to reset your password on your own without needing to contact the IT Service Desk for assistance. Of course, you are always welcome to contact the service desk if you need help.

Password storage can be another issue. Writing them down on a sticky note under your desk is not recommended. Instead, you might try using a password keeper app on your smartphone. There are many free apps available to securely store your password information, however, if you want to use advanced features, you may need to pay.
