When Ted Niehoff and Danny Rahmier walked into the Bowling Green BP/LP plant to drop off some paperwork on June 15, they assumed their visit to the office would be business as usual. However, Niehoff, a driver, and Rahmier, a service technician, soon realized something was amiss. Their co-worker, CSR Shellie Ward, was slurring her speech and having difficulty holding on to her paperwork.
“At first, we were all just joking around, and then we realized something was off,” says Niehoff. “Shellie couldn’t hang up the phone and was stumbling around.”
Just five days after getting married, Ward was in the midst of a stroke and needed immediate assistance. Luckily, her colleagues were quick to call 911 and alert medical professionals of the situation. As they waited for emergency responders to arrive, Niehoff and Rahmier stayed with Ward until she was airlifted to the hospital.
“If it wasn’t for Ted and Danny calling 911, I could be sitting in a nursing home right now instead of being able to be with my family and return to work,” says Ward. “They were my guardian angels that day.”
