Congratulations to Amanda Coggeshall and Kayla Shern on their new positions.
Amanda Coggeshall – Leave and Claims Manager

On Feb. 7, Coggeshall took on the role of leave and claims manager. She now oversees the company’s medical leave of absence and employee accommodation programs, along with workers’ compensation, auto and general liability claim processes. Coggeshall and her team support HR compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations. She will report to Janice Serpico, chief human resources officer.
“I am tremendously excited to have Amanda manage our leave of absence and insurance claims area,” Serpico says. “She has been the primary point person responding to all of our COVID-19 cases while also maintaining our FMLA and leave of absence claims. Amanda has done a fabulous job seeing the company through some tough times during the pandemic. Her promotion is very well deserved.”
Coggeshall began working for MFA Oil in March 2017 as a benefits administrator. Before joining the company, she worked for Missouri’s Department of Social Services in the Children’s Division and ran a successful, licensed childcare business. Coggeshall earned a bachelor’s degree in science from Columbia College and a master’s degree in human services administration from the University of Missouri.
“My team and I are available to help employees navigate any medical curveballs thrown their way and our return-to-work processes,” Coggeshall says. “The past year has provided extra challenges as we coordinate the company’s response to the pandemic. I’m happy to answer any questions employees may have about our COVID-19 policies.”
Kayla Shern – Employee Development Manager

Shern was named employee development manager on Feb. 22. In her new role, she will be responsible for the company’s recruiting and instructional design staff and oversight of employee training and development programs. She will report to Serpico.
“I am thrilled to have Kayla move into the employee development manager position,” Serpico says. “Kayla’s experience with recruiting and marketing make her the perfect person to lead training and recruiting for the company. She recently managed the careers section redesign on mfaoil.com, and she is constantly looking for ways to improve and innovate the recruiting area. I am excited about her ability to help us with the new learning system we have in development.”
Shern has worked for MFA Oil since Aug. 2014. She began her career with the company as a category coordinator for Break Time, working directly with suppliers on in-store promotions and product placement. In March 2017, Shern joined the company’s recruitment team. For the last four years, she has worked with hiring managers to recruit employees across all company divisions. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in communications.
