MFA Oil Announces 2016 Scholarship Winners

Winners of MFA Oil Company’s 2016 college scholarships have been selected:

The C.F. Robertson Scholarship, established in 1972, is awarded each year to the son or daughter of a company-operated bulk plant manager, propane plant manager or salesman.

Jonathon Miller

Jonathon Miller, son of Joe Miller, driver for the Southeast Operations, is the recipient of the C.F. Robertson Scholarship for 2016.  Jonathon attended Poplar Bluff High School and has been active in school and community activities and organizations, including Boy Scouts, Junior ROTC and the Robotics Team. Jonathon plans to attend the Missouri University of Science and Technology and major in computer science and computer engineering.

The Dale H. Creach Scholarship, established in 2003 to honor MFA Oil Company’s president emeritus, is available to sons and daughters of all full-time MFA Oil and MFA Petroleum Company employees. This year, two Dale H. Creach Scholarships were awarded:   

Meredith Thompson
Meredith Thompson

Meredith Thompson, daughter of Elisha Thompson, Break Time manager, received one of the Dale H. Creach scholarships. Meredith attended Rolla High School and has been involved in school and community activities and organizations including Marching Band, National Honor Society, German Club, and the Health Science Academy Future Health Professionals.  Meredith plans to attend the Rolla Technical Center and major in nursing.

Cortney Smitherman

Cortney Smitherman, daughter of Carol Smitherman, CSR at Buffalo, Mo., is the second Dale H. Creach scholarship recipient. Cortney attended Buffalo High School and has been involved in school and community activities and organizations including Future Business Leaders of America, volleyball, Spanish Club, and FFA.  Cortney plans to attend the University of Findlay and double major in business and western equestrian studies.

The Jerry Taylor Scholarship, established in 2016 to honor MFA Oil Company’s former president, is available to sons and daughters of all full-time MFA Oil and MFA Petroleum Company employees.

Matthew May, son of Tom May, director of employee relations is the inaugural recipient of the Jerry Taylor ScholarshipMatt attended Rock Bridge High School and has been involved in school and community activities and organizations including cross country, basketball, track, Future Educators Club, Missouri Boys State, Chamber of Commerce Junior Leadership and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Matthew plans to attend Truman State and major in education.

Winners were chosen on the basis of academic record, school/community activities and characteristics of leadership.  There were several very strong applicants and we wish all of them success in their future education and careers.
