Steve Bernhardt began working at MFA Oil in 1996 at Break Time 3028 in Columbia. He transferred between a couple of stores until 1999 when he left to pursue college.  He came back to the company in 2002 and worked at Jiffy Lube locations until 2009. After nearly 11 years between Break Time and Jiffy Lube, he transferred to the Break Time accounting team in Home Office, where he has worked for the past 14-and-a-half years.

Bernhardt is a go-to resource for Break Time auditors and store personnel for many day-to-day issues and concerns says Barb Oerly, manager of Break Time accounting.

“I appreciated Steve’s knowledge of our operations,” Oerly says. “His experience in retail gave him an excellent knowledge base to build on in Break Time accounting. But maybe the thing I appreciate the most is his sense of humor.  If you don’t get to spend much time with Steve, you may not realize that he can be extremely witty. There will always be laughs if Steve is around.”

Bernhardt’s coworkers say he is dedicated to his job, patient, timely and able to explain things well. They also love his dry wit and understated humor.

Kandie Fairley has been involved in MFA Oil accounting since 1979.

Kristi Story, accounting budget & reports director, says Fairley is a great asset to the company with a wealth of knowledge that she gladly shares with colleagues.

“Kandie is the most dependable person you will ever meet,” Story says. “She takes her responsibilities seriously, she is never late getting things done, and provides great follow up to make sure you have everything you need. Perhaps more importantly, she is a kind person who is always willing to jump in and help whenever needed.”

Sandy Cryderman, accounting operations controller, says it is a pleasure to work with Fairley.

“Kandie is loyal, willing and able to do anything asked of her,” Cryderman says. “In my 18 years of working with her, she is always willing to jump in and help with whatever is needed.”

Senior Accountant Nick Parrish says Fairley is probably his favorite person at MFA Oil.

“I truly appreciate Kandie’s attention to detail and her organization skills,” Parrish says. “She is always quick to provide answers to questions and will follow up to ensure a quick and accurate resolution to any issue.  She has a pleasant demeanor and I have enjoyed our daily conversations and getting to know her over the last year.”

Lora Sedgwick, records services supervisor, says Fairley is a joy to work with and always has a smile on her face.

“Kandie is one of the kindest, most hardworking and dedicated employees you will ever meet,” Sedgwick says. “She is extremely detail oriented – always making sure her T’s are crossed and I’s are dotted.”
