In April, John Byham joined MFA Oil as indirect tax manager. Byham is responsible for overseeing monthly, quarterly and annual coordination of all sales and use tax return filings, federal and state fuel excise tax return filings, tax audits, protests, and any accounting issues related to indirect tax. His other duties include serving as a resource for any tax related questions, ensuring tax compliance, interpreting tax policy and minimizing the company’s tax liabilities.

Byham, who is in the process of moving to Columbia, Mo. from Meadville, Pa., says he’s excited to tackle his new role with the company.
“Managing indirect tax compliance is complex, but rewarding,” Byham says. “Each day brings something new, from determining product taxability, software issues, tax rate changes, to federal and state tax audits. I enjoy the challenge of managing tax compliance.”
Byham will report to Sandy Cryderman, director of accounting, budget and reporting.
“I am very excited for John to join my team,” says Cryderman. “He has extensive experience in accounting and with sales tax. John has already shown initiative digging in to learn more about excise tax and to looking at ways to refine our processes within the tax department. He is going to be a great asset to our company.”
Prior to joining MFA Oil, Byham had been working for Grand Valley Manufacturing Company in Titusville, Pa., as corporate controller. Byham’s previous experience includes 14 years as president and owner of Clear Guard, a retailer of after-market automotive and power sport accessories in Saegertown, Pa.; 11 years working as accountant and treasury manager at Development Dimensions International, a global business consultancy in Bridgeville, Pa.; and four years serving as financial manager for Northeast, a third-party service provider for fracking companies in Meadville, Pa.
Byham graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and holds a Bachelor of Science in comprehensive business administration.
