Danny Snider

On Jan. 23, as Danny Snider, a driver out of MFA Oil’s Sweet Springs, Mo., plant, was returning to the highway after an evening delivery, he noticed something strange. Smoke was pouring out of a Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDoT) shed near Concordia, Mo.

Seeing as no one else was around, Snider pulled over to investigate and discovered something in the shed was on fire. Acting quickly, he called both 911 and local MoDoT personnel to alert them to the situation. Local emergency responders arrived soon afterward to handle the incident.

The fire department located the source of the blaze – a dump truck – and managed to move it from the building and extinguish the fire.

Luckily, Snider’s call provided the firefighters with enough time to save the truck from being destroyed and prevented the shed from incurring major damage.

Snider, who has been a driver with the company since 2015, says he was simply doing what he thought was right. “I saw the smoke, and I thought, well, I should check it out.”

“Too many people in today’s world would have kept on driving by and said it was somebody else’s problem,” says Tom Procter, director of service. “Danny’s alertness and willingness to help, despite already being out on an after-hours delivery, is a great example for all of us.”
