Kate Lewis and her family recently lost their home, two dogs and all their belongings in a house fire. When news of the fire hit the MFA Oil Moberly Business Support Campus (MBSC), where Lewis has worked as a logistics agent for two years, it wasn’t long before coworkers began looking at ways to help.
An envelope began circulating around the MBSC at 9 am on October 16 and by the time the envelope had made its rounds through the office around 1:30 pm, it had been filled with $1,200 by employees.
“As soon as we heard what had happened to Kate and her family, we wanted to do something to help,” say Halli Patrick, purchasing coordinator. “The way the office responded was incredible.”
Patrick and Caitlyn Atterbury, one of Lewis’ fellow logistics agents, assisted with organizing additional support. They helped spread the word about an emergency GoFundMe page that was set up on behalf of the Lewis family and several MFA Oil employees have contributed to the online effort. Clothing and household items the family needs as it recovers from the tragic fire have also been collected at the MBSC.
Patrick says Lewis has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of care she has received from her MFA Oil coworkers.
“She is so thankful for all of the support her family has received,” Patrick says. “This is why MFA Oil is such a great place to work. When life changing events happen, the company steps up to support you.”
