Managers, drivers and service technicians are set to receive a refresher on a variety of safety concerns in the month of May. Annual safety meetings are scheduled to kick off on May 8 and 11 training sessions have been scheduled across a range of the company’s operating territories.
“We’ve got a full day of safety discussions and education planned,” says Tom Procter, director of service. “Safety is a core principle of our company and these meetings are an important investment in building upon and maintaining our strong culture of compliance.”
The meetings will cover a gamut of safety topics, including: fire extinguisher training, installation forms, warning labels, truck rollover prevention, proper storage and handling of petroleum products, and vehicle backing.
“We know safety isn’t always convenient or easy, but compromise is not an option,” says David Grothoff, who specializes in propane safety training. He says that attitude has helped push MFA Oil to the forefront of safety training in the industry. “We have representatives on technical safety committees throughout the propane sector and that has given us an opportunity to voice our input at the national level.”
In addition to the annual safety meetings, Grothoff recently wrapped up bobtail training for 65 employees at Rogersville, Moberly, Cuba, St. Joseph and Poplar Bluff. He’ll be heading back to Moberly, Poplar Bluff and Rogersville to conduct basic propane principles and practices classes with approximately 50 employees the first week of May. These training events are part of MFA Oil’s Certified Employee Training Program (CETP) to comply with National Propane Gas Association standards. Grothoff plans to conduct additional CETP training in the Ohio River Valley, Kansas and Utah later this summer.
Online courses through MFA Oil University are also available for employees who wish to brush up on their safety knowledge.
“We’ve taken full advantage of the benefits of MFA Oil University to create a blended learning program for our state and national CETP program,” Procter says. “We’re committed to providing a safe work environment for our employees and ensuring they have the proper knowledge to keep themselves and our customers out of harm’s way.”
