In 1988, a gallon of gas cost 90 cents and you could buy a dozen eggs for 65 cents. That year, Michael Jackson launched his first solo concert tour, the Doppler radar was invented, and moviegoers enjoyed classic films such as Rain Man, Coming to America and Die Hard at theaters.
That same year, a young Nickie Turpin came to work at the Break Time convenience store in Brookfield, Mo. Turpin had been working as a shift manager at the Hardee’s across the street since 1980.
Back then, Turpin was a weekend warrior who covered every weekend night. She consistently received stellar reviews and steadily moved up within the company. One of Turpin’s former managers described her as “dependable and a wonderful employee.”
By 1990, Turpin was promoted to assistant manager, and four years later, she became the store manager. Turpin has held that role ever since.
On December 1, Turpin will retire after 35 years of remarkable service. Break Time is thankful for the leadership she has provided to her store for so many years. Turpin is known for the great care she has shown for her employees, which has contributed to her team’s minimal turnover rate. She has consistently shown great pride and ownership in her store and satisfying her customers.
Area Manager Becky Proctor says Turpin will be missed by her employees, customers, and peers.
“Nickie has been very loyal to Break Time,” Proctor says. “Most people don’t get to see her quirky, funny side. But those who have spent time with her will miss that the most. I’ve enjoyed working with Nickie and wish her lots of relaxation in the years to come!”
