Each year BPLP managers are challenged to improve their plant’s net income as part of the annual sales contest. This year’s contest was set up with a few notable differences though. First, the contest period was aligned with the fiscal year, beginning on Sept. 1, 2019 and ending on Aug. 31, 2020. Second, to qualify for the contest, business-development criteria was required. And finally, to encourage teamwork, prizes were rewarded to all employees at the winning locations.
In an effort to grow the co-op’s business, plant staff were tasked with conducting face-to-face sales calls that resulted in at least 60 qualified leads from new customers, prior customers who had switched companies or existing customers with cross-sale potential. Within a week of each sales call, the leads had to be submitted to the marketing department. Every lead that was submitted received a thank you letter in the mail and a follow-up from an assigned business development representative.
The top two managers in each class with the largest percentage increase in net income will receive an allowance of up to $150 per employee (or $300 per couple) to treat their drivers, service technicians, CSRs, operations manager and business development representative, and their spouses, to a group meal or activity of their choosing.
