The 2018 Summer internship program is wrapping up soon and we would like to sincerely thank our interns for all their hard work and dedication throughout the summer. Here is a glimpse into what our interns worked on this summer!
Abdoul Diallo – Network Operations
Abdoul hails from Conarky, the capital city of Guinea in West Africa. He is studying computer science at Moberly Area Community College. Abdoul worked as a server administration intern this summer and his primary duties consisted of building web forms for data and asset management via the land-desk management suite. Following the completion of his internship, Abdoul hopes to pursue a career working as a software developer.
Anna Koepke – Human Resources Information Systems
A recent graduate of Missouri State University, Anna is from Owensville, Mo., and holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources. Anna assisted payroll with timesheets and helped to coordinate employee information in various databases. She hopes to find a full-time job in the Columbia area.
Augie (John) Loehr – Information Technology
Augie is a student at Mississippi State University where he is pursuing a degree in business information systems. Though he comes to MFA Oil by way of Mississippi, Augie grew up in Columbia. This summer he worked with the development operations team as a business analytics intern. He analyzed business data to create reports and dashboards to aid in company decision making. Augie hopes to pursue a career as a business intelligence developer or as a business analyst.
Callie Hanson – Marketing
Texas native Callie came to MFA Oil from Texas A&M University where she studies agricultural communications and journalism. This summer she worked with the marketing department on various projects including writing stories for Momentum magazine and the Bottom Line blog. Callie plans to continue her career in the marketing field and eventually pursue a master’s degree.
Christian Steelman – Construction Management
A future civil engineer from Salem, Mo., Christian worked in construction management for the summer. He surveyed Break Time locations for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and was also involved with the company’s construction and remodeling projects. The University of Missouri student hopes to find work in the field of engineering following his graduation
Drew Tillman – Recruiting
Drew is from Springfield, Mo., and goes to school at Central Methodist University where he is working toward dual degrees in psychology and marketing. He assisted the company’s recruiters by identifying qualified applicants, conducting phone screenings, generating offer letters and designing an onboarding brochure. Drew’s goal is to find a job in employee relations or recruiting and to someday open his own consulting firm.
Jack Ciombor – Supply and Government Affairs
Jack, a Wheaton, Ill., native, is a student at Benedictine University in the Chicago area where he studies business and economics. His internship focused on the areas of supply, government affairs and risk/compliance. Jack’s duties included helping with pricing of company product, hedging inventory to reduce risk and insurance on company assets.
Jeffrey Schulz – Development Operations
Jeffrey is from Edwardsville, Ill., and studies computer engineering at University of Missouri and served as the company’s application development intern. He worked with the RAD team to improve application infrastructure in various areas of the company. Following graduation, Jeffrey hopes to work in software engineering on the West Coast and is considering the pursuit of a master’s degree.
Joe Burkett – Operations
Joe is a student at University of Missouri where he studied agribusiness management as an undergraduate and will be graduating with his masters in agriculture and applied economics in the coming semester. Joe has spent his summer interning with the operations department where he worked on implementing the Open Tundra system which sends constant data from tanks regarding fuel levels.
Josh Mesnier – Distribution Warehouse
Josh is from the St. Louis, Mo. suburb of Manchester and is studying industrial engineering at the University of Missouri. He worked at the distribution warehouse in Moberly, focusing on inventory management systems and making them more efficient for the company. Following his graduation, Josh would like to return to the St. Louis area and find a career in supply chain management or operations management.
Katherine Franken – Records
Originally, from Tipton, Mo., Katherine verified tax exemptions and updated customer information for the Records Department this summer. She is a student at Missouri State University where she studies agricultural communications. Katherine hopes to pursue a career that will enable her to promote the agriculture industry to people not directly involved in the production of food and feed.
Liam Flaherty – IT Service Desk
Prior to beginning his internship, Liam was working part-time at Break Time while attending the University of Missouri and majoring in information sciences with a minor in computer science. He joined the IT service desk team for the summer and focused on recycling outdated computers by upgrading them with newer systems. Originally from High Ridge, Mo., Liam plans on pursuing a career in information technology following his graduation.
Maria Kuhns – Bulk Fuel and Propane Operations
Maria is from Altamont, Ill., and is studying agricultural business at the University of Missouri. She has worked as an intern with bulk fuel and propane operations since January 2018. Her day-to-day tasks included setting up and updating customer pricing agreements; bidding and ordering wholesale loads for customers; and creating quarterly sales reports. After graduation, Maria hopes to pursue a masters in agricultural economics with a focus on cooperative theory and development.
Mercedes Nute – Tax and Banking
Mercedes worked with the tax and banking department, where she conducted tax rate audits and assisted the department in creating a company-wide tax policy. She is an MBA candidate at Columbia College, the same school where she received her undergraduate degree in accounting and finance. The Shelbyville, Mo., native plans to become a certified public accountant and has already accepted a full-time position with local accounting firm, Williams-Keepers LLC.
Mikhail Mani – Big O Tires
Mikhail came to America from Dubai to study automotive technology and business at the University of Central Missouri. This summer, he worked with Big O Tires in the areas of procurement and process improvement. Mikhail plans on working in a similar field and pursuing a master’s degree in the future.
Roman Shortino – Quality Control Lab Services
Roman, who is studying biochemistry at the University of Central Missouri, worked with in the laboratory at the Moberly Business Support Campus. He was primarily tasked with analyzing fuel and lubricant samples for preventative maintenance and diagnostic purposes. Roman is from Blue Springs, Mo., and would like to find a career working in a research or quality control laboratory.
Treaver Woehr – Break Time Marketing
Treaver served as the Break Time food marketing intern. The native of Taos, Mo., is a student at Missouri State University and is majoring in marketing management. Treaver stayed busy this summer by evaluating Break Time’s food practices, marketing materials and the factors behind store problems and successes. Treaver plans to pursue a master’s degree in business administration and eventually work in marketing.
